Alejandro Aguilar, Jameson Hampton, Jack Thomson, Guadalupe Herrera

Study Site 2
Salar de Atacama, Chile is located near the subduction zone of the Nazca and South American plates. This subduction zone creates a backarc region with rampant volcanism, which creates an ideal site for lithium mining in selective topographic regions. The climate of the Antofagasta region is extremely arid with an annual rainfall of 2 mm.
